Sounds of Cinema: The Big Score
(I think it’s probably meant to be the SounD of Cinema, not Sounds, judging from the hashtag).
“In the first episode of a new series celebrating film music, Neil Brand explores how the classic orchestral film score emerged. Neil traces how in the 1930s, European-born composers such as Max Steiner and Erich Wolfgang Korngold brought their Viennese schooling to play in stirring, romantic scores for masterpieces like King Kong. But it took a home-grown talent, Bernard Herrmann, to bring a darker sound to cinema’s finest films, with his scores for Citizen Kane and Vertigo. Sound of Cinema is part of a wider BBC season exploring Film Music this autumn.
Followed by a Q&A with Neil Brand.”
We’ll get to see one episode from the new three-part series and then there’ll be a Q&A with @NeilKBrand.
This is part of a delicious series of programming running across television and radio. I want to send 12 long-stemmed bags of popcorn to whichever genius commissioned this loveliness.

The bullet points above are pinched from the BBC’s Meda Centre page on the Sound of Cinema. Make sure you look at the spectacular Sound of Cinema Media Pack (PDF). Nine pages of stuff about film music.
I’ve saved the PDF more permanently here in case they lose it 😉
