I have discovered an amazing website which lists all film music concerts happening around the world – if one you know about isn’t listed it’s because someone hasn’t told them (it’s crowdsourced), so tell them! The site is Movies in Concert: concert list
Here are some events relating to film scores that are coming up in London (you can also filter the concert list above to show you concerts local to you).

What goes into a successful film score? What is the ideal way for directors and composers to interact? What are some of the many roles music can play in the filmmaking process?
How can music enhance (or ruin) a movie? These and other questions related to the intersection of film and music will be discussed by two leading practitioners.
Alex Heffes (Last King of Scotland, Red Riding Hood, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom)
Javier Navarrete (Pan’s Labyrinth, Wrath of the Titans, The Sea, Byzantium)
Moderated by Director of the Sundance Film Music Program, Peter Golub (Frozen River, The Great Debaters, The Laramie Project).

Last year I attended Mark Kermode’s film music concert series and a piece from the original score was played – I’d never heard of it before but loved it and it’s now iTuned onto my computer. Before that I listened to it a fair bit via YouTube and discovered a 65daysofstatic version which I was rather taken with, last time I checked it had been taken down. Anyway…
Village Underground Presents: 65daysofstatic perform Silent Running
65daysofstatic are inspired by scattered beats and loops as much as they are by loud guitars and noise. They’re also fearless experimenters; last year saw them present a breath-taking 16-speaker live audio installation in collaboration with Sheffield Tramlines at Millennium Galleries, for example.
For Convergence, 65daysofstatic will be performing their critically-acclaimed live soundtrack to the classic cult sci-fi film Silent Running.
Neil Brand / Steamboat Bill Jr
Friday 2 May 2014, 8pm
Herne Hill Free Film Festival, Herne Hill
http://www.freefilmfestivals.org/whats-on/herne-hill/details/243-steamboat-bill-jr.html
We launch the 2014 Herne Hill Free Film Festival on Friday May 2 from 8pm in Station Square, Railton Road with the Buster Keaton classic Steamboat Bill Jr (Dir Charles Reisner and Buster Keaton, 1928, USA, Cert U, 71 mins) with a live piano soundtrack performed by internationally renowned accompanist Neil Brand.
Our landlubber hero returns from college to work on his father’s Mississippi Riverboat with predictably hilarious consequences. And to make matters worse he’s head-over-heals in love with the daughter of dad’s arch rival. Featuring Keaton’s trademark daredevil stunts, it’s a film that’s influenced talents as diverse as The Goodies and Jackie Chan and is regarded as a masterpiece of the silent era. Watch out for the famous hurricane sequence in which the façade of a house collapses around Keaton leaving him unscathed – just!
Neil Brand – who draws on both his extensive knowledge of silent movies and wonderful talents as a musician to enhance our experience of the film – will accompany Steamboat Bill Jr on Herne Hill’s public piano.
Before the main feature we will screen The Station Piano at Herne Hill a short documentary about the piano directed by Maureen Ni Fiann which provides a window into the personalities who play it and how it affects the local community. The piano is played by everyone – the traffic warden, lorry driver, toddlers, teenagers in bling, school kids and retired folk. They all play the same keys.
This is a FREE event. No tickets required.
This is an outdoor screening without seats so please bring your own chairs, rugs or cushions. And as it’s an open air event we advise you to dress for British Summer weather! Screening begins once it is dark – at approximately 8.45pm Station Square is well served by bars, restaurants and cafes and there will be stalls selling food.

A special event for all the family combining live orchestral music with stunning HD footage from the BBC series Frozen Planet.
Best known for his work in film and television, George Fenton is one of the UK’s most successful composers, writing scores for over 100 films and collaborating with some of the most influential filmmakers. In 1990 he composed the score for the BBC Natural History series, Trials of Life, his first collaboration with Alastair Fothergill and the start of a creative relationship that has spanned over 20 years culminating in the Earth Trilogy: The Blue Planet, Planet Earth and Frozen Planet. This trilogy has changed the face of natural history filmmaking bringing the wonders of the planet to mass audiences worldwide.
Fenton’s score matched the ambition of these series, masterfully using music to underscore the stories unfolding on screen. Following the success of The Blue Planet, for which he won Ivor Novello, BAFTA and Emmy awards for Best Television Score, Fenton created the show, The Blue Planet in Concert which has been performed by the world’s leading orchestras. Following its international success, Fenton was asked to create Planet Earth in Concert which toured America in 2010 and the UK in September 2012. Frozen Planet in Concert completes the trilogy and premiered at the Hollywood Bowl in July 2012.

An evening of breathtaking film music from acclaimed British composer Clint Mansell – the man behind some of the most celebrated soundtracks of the past two decades.
A longtime collaborator of groundbreaking director Darren Aronofsky – for whom he has scored Black Swan, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler, and Pi – Mansell was recognised for this outstanding work with Grammy and Golden Globe nominations. ‘Lux Aeterna’ (from Requiem for a Dream) has become ubiquitous even outside the realms of the film itself.
In addition to his impressive work on Aronofsky’s films, and a plethora of more mainstream films, Clint received major acclaim for his 2009 score for Duncan Jones’ directorial debut Moon. His latest creation is the soundtrack to the upcoming film Noah, starring Russell Crowe.
Mansell will perform with his band, alongside pianist Carly Paradis and the Sonus Quartet.
